Langanis Barber Magazine 1st Edition

Style is everything.
If there’s one barbershop that embodies this sentiment on style, it’s the barbershop trio, Langanis Barber. Langanis Barber has quickly evolved from one modest store in West End into three busy, vibrant shopfronts in Brisbane CBD. Now, the Langanis name rings familiar to those living in Brisbane, regardless of their involvement in the hair industry.

This high-speed growth can only be put down to one thing – the keen creative direction shown by owner and founder, Michael Langanis. And, he’s just getting started…

This year you can expect to see more emphasis on the Langanis brand as well as the trademark Langanis culture. From hairstyles to modern fit-outs and high-energy atmospheres – Langanis Barber showcases a culture that’s openly out of the ordinary, and far ahead of the movement.

“We’re not following any trends, we’re just doing us,” says Michael.

LANGANIS STUDIO

Unlike anywhere else, Langanis Barber empathises with those tired of getting just the same old haircut. Langanis cuts are defined by their signature styling, complicated cutting techniques, colour work and texture – all elements which have been influenced by the hairdressing industry. This unique, hybrid combination of barbering and hairdressing is what sets the Langanis name apart, and creates a brand that is truly distinctive and self-sustaining.

Having implemented creative and inclusive styles for the lifetime of the brand, Langanis on Edward Street is making a formal arrival into the market as Langanis Studio. This officially marks the expansion of all services to include a multi-gender approach.

“The word barber is masculine, it has a stigma of being attached to men… We decided on Studio because it’s more inclusive and we want to take a multi-gender approach with our services,” says Michael.

Already, in each unique store location, Langanis Barber employs one or more premier stylist/s who specialise in female cuts, styles and colours. However, within the latest Edward street location, Langanis Studio, the team comprises of only experienced premier stylists who can service both male and female hair without limitation.

NEW STORE DESIGN

If you’ve not yet had the opportunity to visit Langanis Studio in Brisbane CBD, you’re missing out on an unorthodox experience. Cold textures of concrete, glass and metal surround you and you no longer feel confined within the walls of the city. Grey and black edges form optical prisms in a layout that’s not only surreal, it’s psychedelic.

The out of this world aesthetics are complemented by a high-energy atmosphere, showcased through music and enthusiastic staff. Michael’s vision for a worldly and unique new shopfront was clear from the start, he just needed a designer to help bring it to life.

“We didn’t want the store to feel like a salon, we wanted it to feel like a high-end retailer… We’re creating hype and putting on a show,” says Michael.

While both West End and Teneriffe locations boast careful design and close attention to detail, this was Langanis’ very first time commissioning a designer. Small details comprise the shop, some of which go unnoticed by the untrained eye. For example, all wires are held in metal pipes rather than plastic conduits to avoid using plastic throughout the build. Instead, and in a similar fashion to his other store designs, Michael opted for natural materials as a substitute.

INSPIRATION

Inspiration comes easy for Michael Langanis, he knows what he wants and isn’t afraid to implement it.

“For inspiration, we focus on fashion, music and architecture rather than the hair industry. We do this because that’s where the trends are, they’re within the culture of our scene. But it’s not just about hair, it’s about fashion and lifestyle.

Each store has it’s own individual personality that caters to different crowds with their designs and music. We don’t like to focus on a specific style of music, rather it’s customised to each shops flavour. We play Rap, HipHop, RnB, House, Acoustic – whatever is relevant at the time.”

Relevancy seems to be key within Langanis Barber and Studio, with all shops featuring unconventional colour changing lights. These lights are in effect to “make people feel a certain way,” as well as to alter the aesthetics of the shop and customise the space for functions.

“It’s fun to be able to change the mood and make people feel a certain way. On Friday nights we can boost the colour and energy of the shop, while through the day we can have the lights more neutral and relaxed,” says Michael.

Langanis Barber and Studio endeavours to always stay modern and ahead of the curve when it comes to culture, atmosphere and the everchanging ‘Langanis cut.’ Elements including superior style, colour changing lights and genuine architectural design create flexibility of the Langanis brand and ensure they’ll never go out of style.

LANGANIS HAIR

Naturally, a leading hair empire should have products to complement their superior styling services. Langanis Hair was custom created and manufactured by Michael Langanis to allow people to replicate their new sleek hairstyle from home. The concept for the product-duo originated from Michael’s working experience and knowledge of his favourite styling products.

Langanis Hair GRANITE and SANDSTONE, despite their differences, are both unaffected by sun and humidity. This prevents the stylers from weakening throughout the day to give you a long-lasting look and finish. Both of these two innovative products are also packed with natural minerals and antioxidants to assist with hair health.

GRANITE is designed to give a strong, textured and gritty hold on the hair. Made from premium matte clays and texturising agents, GRANITE is great to use a finishing product and also as a pre-styler to provide foundation before styling the hair.

SANDSTONE is built to give your hair an effortless and volumed finish. The strong and smooth consistency of this premium styling product gives your hair a clean, matte and effortless look. Made from conditioning oils and high-quality clays, SANDSTONE is healthy and hydrating and has a malleable finish, which is mouldable time and time again. This product is best used as a pre-styler or primer when blowdrying the hair, and can also be used as a finisher.

You’ll see more of these high-end products in action through Langanis’s team of hand-selected male models. This team was assembled to represent the key styles that constitute the Langanis brand as a whole, and they’ll be working hard to show off the best of the best at Langanis Hair and Studio in 2021.
